Summary
Snowsport England commissioned Sport Structures to provide support for the creation and development of their Participant Development Model. It was envisaged that this work would underpin their Coaching framework and enable Snowsport England to develop a world leading coaching system.
Approach
We began by meeting with representatives of the various disciplines operating within Snowsport England. These face to face meetings took place over a 6 month period and were primarily an information gathering process. During this time we also carried out desk based research to establish the coaching pathways used internationally. This information was collated into a draft diagram which began to identify the participants involved in Snowsports in England.
In order for this work to be taken forward and to ensure the expertise within Snowsport England was utilised a Participant Modelling group was formed in December 2009. This group met on a monthly basis to develop the generic and individual discipline participant development models.
Outcome
In May 2010 draft models were produced for the individual disciplines along with a generic participant development model. This work will enable Snowsport England to develop their coaching system with the needs of its participants at the centre of its delivery.
Snowsport England recognised the importance of the progression of this work and commissioned Sport Structures to provide further support and guidance.
