Summary
Sport Structures were commissioned to develop the volunteer audit and strategy for the British Judo Association.
Approach
The project was divided into two strands:
Strand ONE
The development and analysis of a volunteer audit for long term measurement of volunteering in Judo.
Strand TWO
Change to: The development of a strategy for the recruitment, retention and rewarding of volunteers in Judo. Sport Structures delivered against an agreed method to employ a mix of direct mail, workshop and web-based opportunities:
- Senior volunteers – one workshop and survey
- Regional Volunteers – direct mail survey
- Club volunteers - direct mail survey/ volunteer web page
- Coaches and Officials - direct mail survey/ volunteer web page
- Players/potential volunteers- volunteer web page
Following the completion of the audit, Sport Structures facilitated a volunteer group made up of professional development staff and volunteers to shape the plan. Through two sessions and email communication the plan was completed and delivered on time to the BJA. From the key issues arising from the audit the strategy took the following form:
- Vision of volunteering in Judo
- Key objectives to be addressed
- Action plan for the next four years
- Implementation plan
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Resource implications
Outcomes
Strand One
A detailed report demonstrating the raw statistics, any trends, proximity issues and the key issues for Judo volunteering as a basis for informing the development of the volunteer strategy.
Strand two
A strategy was produced in a consistent easy read format with associated analysis and audit to support the implementation and strategic approach. This plan integrated into other key areas of the Whole Sport/One Stop plan and in particular the development of coaches, officials and clubs.
