Outline
Boccia England requested the services of Sport Structures in order to map elements of their sporting landscape, infrastructure and workforce. Using existing data and mapping software, Sports structures produced a visual report with interpretation which allowed Boccia to formulate an action plan and make changes to their future delivery and resource regarding facilities and workforce.
Approach
Sports Structures used anonymised postcode date to map workforce and infrastructure postcodes elements against a national outline map of England, including details such as CSPs, regions and indices of deprivation using MapInfo software. The postcode data that was mapped included, academy locations, coach educator workforce, volunteers, places where Boccia is played including clubs and schools as well as Sport England Pilot areas. A total of 23 maps were produced, each with a specific focus, for example school locations. The data was presented in a visual report with interpretation including conclusions, recommendations and turned insight into a usable action plan.
Outcome
The results of this mapping exercise have allowed Boccia England to better understand the geographical gaps in their infrastructure and workforce as well as update their knowledge. This gap analysis formulated an insight into action plan that has led to key priority areas and development of future development actions. Importantly it has allowed Boccia to better understand which geographical areas need development and allowed them to allocate resource in a more insightful and logical way.
