Summary:
To provide a primary and secondary based research review of Birmingham’s Sport Action Zone to inform the future direction of inner city sports development.
Approach:
The review of the Sport Action Zone in Birmingham was undertaken through a detailed review of direct Sport Action Zone data and indirect data sourced through the Sport Action Zone manager and the City Council. The direct and primary data collection included interviews with sports development personnel, telephone interviews, surveys, and community group online surveys. The indirect data used included leisure pass user statistics. The secondary data utilised included a desk based review of previous files, reports, databases, action plans and evaluation documents. Semi structured discussions with the SAZ manager were also seen to be a central source of information for the direct data.
Outcome:
Successful outcomes of the Sport Action Zone, and the issues and barriers to overcome in the future development of sport in Birmingham’s inner city.
