Pilot delivery of the Introduction to Teaching Basketball Secondary Course
Last month, Basketball in the Community piloted the Basketball England Introduction to Teaching Basketball Secondary course with 17 secondary PGCE students.
The workshop is ideal for teachers, individuals on a PGCE pathway and teaching assistants with little or no basketball teaching experience who are working or aspiring to work in secondary education environment.
Course organiser, Dean Rosembert said:
“The secondary teachers course was able to unpick and refine the knowledge of basketball for those that may not be fully confident with delivering it to Key stage 3 and 4 students. Additionally we had the flexibility to explore the pedagogy and come up with or even challenge the suitable way to deliver basketball education. The candidates felt like the course prepared them for delivering basketball in a school setting to those that may be taking part for participation reasons and to those that may want to further explore the greatness that playing basketball can bring.
We chose to deliver this course as we felt it was a great opportunity to pilot the new course and it didn’t disappoint. We had a blend of Hive learning resources coupled with practical based learning”
Feedback from the delegates included:
“The content was very relevant to my needs and this was further assisted by the tutor offering extra ideas to help when teaching in schools. The tutor made the day with a fun but educational”
“Amazing workshop, very detailed and had great teaching advice involved”
“Instructor was engaging and we were physical active. I found the workshop very helpful as it gave us lots of activities to put in lessons and taught us the main teaching points for basketball skills while performing them”
The workshop is due to be released in the coming months to support teachers that are wishing to upskill their knowledge for the start of the academic year.
