A year has gone by since our Project officer Colin Geenes completed the London Marathon to raise money for British Blind Sport. Colin completed the 26 mile round marathon in an impressive 4 hours and 40 minutes. We asked Colin a few questions about the experience:
Q: Would you do it again?
A: Yes defiantly it was an amazing experience and I’m really proud to say I have achieved it. I think I would probably pick a marathon later in the year so that I could do the majority of my training in better weather though
Q: What advice would you give to anyone thinking about doing a marathon?
A: Start your training early and build up slowly following a training plan. I followed the training plan available on the London Marathon website which really helped keep the motivation going during the cold winter months. Also pick a charity that your really passionate about, it helps maintain your motivation especially when fundraising.
Q: Did you hit the “wall”?
A: Yes I did!! I found the second half so difficult maybe due to the fact It was crazily hot last year especially compared to the snow we had just a few weeks before the race. I got through it by setting myself short goals and concentrating on the next milestone. I tried not to think about how far was left. The crowd definitely made it easier though, the support they give is amazing and can helps you to get through.
We would like to wish everybody taking part this year the best of luck..
