Sport Structures - Sport Education and Training
Learners will be provided with an introduction to the principles and practice of mentoring members of the workforce, both paid and voluntary, including how to set up mentoring agreements, the planning, delivery and evaluation of mentoring interventions and measuring success.
The 1st4sport Level 3 Award in Workforce Mentoring is designed for individuals who have responsibilities within their job role to mentor colleagues or workforce from other organisations, or individuals who want to enter into the mentoring workforce.
This qualification is widely accepted across the sports industry but please check the requirements of the organisation you intend to mentor for before booking.

Learners must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be appropriately identified
- Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing)
- Hold an assessing qualification
- Have access to a minimum of two mentees who have defined targets/areas for development through mentoring
If you have any support requirements to enable you to attend and successfully complete the course, please advise us when you book your place on the course. We will then contact you ahead of the course start date to discuss how we can best support you.
Learners must have access to a laptop or tablet. A smartphone device is accepted but functionality can be limited. The device must have access to a microphone as the sessions will be interactive. Please also ensure you have good WIFI access.
After the virtual classroom sessions, learners are required to undertake the following assessment activities:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the theory underpinning workforce mentoring by completing tasks within a learner portfolio
- Produce a record of a mentoring agreement for two mentees
- Conduct an initial assessment of mentee needs for two mentees Plan, conduct, record and review four workforce mentoring interventions, two for each mentee, one of which must be face to face for each mentee and observed by an assessor (minimum 20 minutes)
All assessments must take place in a work environment and can not be simulated.
Due to the nature of the assessment, learners will need to be observed assessing in their own environment. Learners are encouraged to source their own qualified assessors. Sport Structures are able to provide an assessor for an additional fee
Learners have three years from the start date of their course to be certificated. We recommend that learners aim to finish six months prior to their course end date to ensure plenty of time for their portfolio to be marked and any amendments to be made so that their certificate can be claimed.
In exceptional circumstances, an extension may be available. Please contact education@sportstructures.com as soon as possible if you would like to discuss this further.
Successful learners may progress to further education and training qualifications, within coaching or mentoring roles, and seek to develop their knowledge by working with other, more experienced, workforce mentors.
