Sport Structures - Sport Education and Training
Learners will cover the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for tutoring and assessing sports qualifications. This will involve attending virtual classroom sessions with an experienced tutor/assessor, and completion of assessment tasks to demonstrate their understanding of the theory and practical application of tutoring and assessing.
The 1st4sport Level 3 Award for Tutors and Assessors in Sport will prepare learners for both tutoring and assessing roles for both regulated and non-regulated sports courses and workshops. This qualification is widely accepted across the sports industry but please check the requirements of the organisation you intend to tutor and assess for before booking.
All available course dates can be found at the below. Before booking a course, please check the learner pre-requisites for this course and our booking terms and conditions. Please note, all courses will close for bookings one week prior to the start date of the course.

"The course was well ran, it was a fantastic environment for learning to take place. Was helpful and provided new ways to look at current knowledge and at the same time unlock new gems"
Learners must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be appropriately identified
- Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing)
- Hold a relevant vocational sports qualification in the subject area/sport they aspire to tutor and assess, and at least the same level
It is strongly recommended that learners who are registering onto this course have access to a mentor in their own environment to support their development. This can be an experienced tutor/assessor or a peer who is going through the same qualification.
If you have any support requirements to enable you to attend and successfully complete the course, please advise us when you book your place on the course. We will then contact you ahead of the course start date to discuss how we can best support you.
Learners must have access to a laptop or tablet. A smartphone device is accepted but functionality can be limited. The device must have access to a microphone as the sessions will be interactive. Please also ensure you have good WIFI access.
Learners are required to produce a portfolio of evidence away from the course which includes:
- Completing a series of assessed tasks
- Tutoring activities and session plans
- A personal development plan and reflective practice
Learners have three years from the start date of their course to be certificated. We recommend that learners aim to finish six months prior to their course end date to ensure plenty of time for their portfolio to be marked and any amendments to be made so that their certificate can be claimed.
In exceptional circumstances, an extension may be available. Please contact education@sportstructures.com as soon as possible if you would like to discuss this further.
Successful learners may progress to further education and training qualifications. The skills and knowledge developed may also be used to enable learners to progress to other industry-relevant qualifications in the delivery, assessment or verification in sport, physical activity, activity leadership, supporting PE in school sport and sports development.
