Course description
The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching (Korfball) focuses on the skills and competences required to be able to plan, deliver and review a series of linked and progressive korfball coaching sessions, either working independently or as part of a coaching team.
The certificate gives an introduction to the generic aspects of sports coaching and a general overview of all the technical aspects of coaching Korfball. Coaches can expect to cover:
- Understanding your role as a coach
- The coaching process (plan, do, review)
- Creating safe and inclusive coaching environments
- Understanding and developing the individuals you coach
- Approaches to coaching
- Individual fundamentals
- Attacking skills
- Defensive responses
- Game play tactics
Who is the course for?
This course is specifically for individuals who have experience of Korfball coaching and are operating in a club environment. This is the standard level of coaching award for all club coaches and aligns to the England Korfball Common Minimum Standards.
What’s the value of this course?
This qualification is mapped to the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) professional standard for a Coach. The qualification is recognised by 1st4Sport and is the industry standard level 2 korfball qualification for coaches in the UK by England Korfball.
Eligibility
Learners must:
- Be at least 18 years of age on the first day of the course
- Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing)
- Be able to deliver Korfball coaching sessions over the next six months after starting the course (ideally in a club environment)
- Have a valid Safeguarding and Protecting Children certificate prior to certification (as per the England Korfball Common Minimum Standards)
- Have successfully completed one of the following courses*;
- BKA Level 1 Coaching Award or above
- IKF Level 1 Coaching Award or above
- England Korfball Teaching Children Korfball course
- England Korfball Level 1 Award or above
*If learners do not hold one of the above awards but have 12 months coaching experience and are able to provide evidence of this (through witness testimony), they are eligible to progress straight to the Level 2 Certificate. Evidence will be required after registration.
Any special requirements must be made clear at registration.
If you have a BKA Level 2 certificate or have significant coaching experience, you may be eligible to access the Level 2 Certificate in Korfball Bridging course. This course may be more suitable to learners with significant coaching experience.
Format / duration
This qualification will run twice per year.
The course is delivered through a blended learning approach through e-learning, self-study tasks, and a face-to-face technical module. There will also be virtual check-in session to support planning coaching sessions.

Submission of coaching sessions for assessment |
Learners will be required to complete a minimum of 7 e-Learning modules. It is recommended that learners set aside at least 1.5 hours to complete each module and will be able to access the e-Learning on demand. For some of the e-Learning modules, there will be associated assessment tasks which will require additional learner time.
Assessment
Learners will be required to:
- Complete all e-learning modules
- Plan, deliver and evaluate a coaching programme in their own club environment (A minimum of six sessions)
- Video and submit one of the six coaching sessions for assessment by an England Korfball assessor and a professional discussion will be conducted virtually once the video of the coaching session has been observed
Progression opportunities
Learners may be interested in attending the International Korfball Federation level 3 coaching course. In addition, learners may wish to progress onto the 1st4sport Level 3 Award in the Principles for Coaching Sport to develop in the learner the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to deliver an annual coaching programme to either adults or young people.
Cost
The cost of the qualification is £350 per person.

Flexible payment plans are available for this course to support accessibility. Learners opting for a payment plan should pay 50% of the course fee to secure their place and we will then contact you to arrange the next payment.
If you wish to pay in full, you will also find the option to pay for 100% of the course fee.
